Size Guide
Last updated:
Choosing a tumbler is less about inches and more about how the person will use it: an iced coffee in the car, a glass of wine on the porch, a water cup in a school backpack. This Size Guide explains the tumbler sizes and colours you will see on our product pages, who each size suits, how much room each shape gives your personalization, and what to do if you pick the wrong one. Exact dimensions, weights and lid details for each product are listed on its product page; where a product page gives a measurement, that measurement is the one that applies. If you are still unsure, email support@cozytumbler.com and tell us who the tumbler is for; we reply within 1 business day.
Sizes at a glance
- 20 oz: our skinny tumbler, the everyday choice for coffee, tea and water on the go.
- 12 oz: used for our stemless wine tumblers and our kids tumblers, two different shapes with the same capacity label.
- 30 oz: offered on selected designs for people who want a larger drink between refills.
- Colours: White, Black, Blush Pink, Navy, Mint and Lilac, depending on the product.
- Wrong size? Exchange it within 60 days of delivery, with free postage both ways.
How the size labels work
The size option on our product pages describes capacity, measured in US fluid ounces: 12 oz, 20 oz or 30 oz. Capacity labels are the industry’s standard way to name tumblers, and they refer to the volume the tumbler holds when filled. In practice you will usually drink a little less than the label, because the lid needs room to close and ice takes up space. The size label is the same on every product that uses it, so a 20 oz option on a family design means the same tumbler as a 20 oz option on a pet design.
Two of our shapes share the 12 oz label: the stemless wine tumbler and the kids tumbler. They hold a similar amount but are built for very different hands and occasions, so always check the product name and photos as well as the size option.
Comparing the tumbler shapes
| Size option | Shape | Best for | Personalization room | Typical gift |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 oz | Tall, slim skinny tumbler with lid and straw | Daily coffee, iced drinks, water at work or in the car | Most: long wrap for name lists, photos and quotes | Grandma with grandkids’ names, teacher, nurse, dad |
| 12 oz (wine) | Short, rounded, stemless | Wine, cocktails, a small coffee, porch evenings | Medium: a name, monogram, date or small photo | Bridesmaids, besties, anniversaries |
| 12 oz (kids) | Smaller, child-friendly tumbler | School, sports practice, lunch boxes, road trips | Medium: a first name and a playful design | Kids’ birthdays, back to school, team gifts |
| 30 oz | Larger tumbler, where offered | Long days, gym, job sites, people who hate refilling | Large: bold names and bigger artwork | Dads, coaches, outdoor workers |
Not every design is offered in every size. If you have found the perfect design but it is not offered in the size you want, email us; sometimes we can adapt it.
How to choose: questions to ask yourself
Where will the tumbler live?
A tumbler that travels in a car needs to fit a cup holder. The slim 20 oz skinny shape is the one most people choose for the car, but cup holders vary a lot between vehicles, especially older cars and trucks, so we never promise a fit without measuring. If the gift is for someone with an unusual cup holder, compare against the base measurement listed on the product page. A tumbler that lives on a desk, a nightstand or a porch table has no such limit.
What will they drink from it?
Coffee and tea drinkers tend to prefer the 20 oz skinny tumbler: enough for a large coffee with milk and room to close the lid. Iced-coffee and water drinkers who refill often may like the 30 oz where it is offered. Wine and cocktail lovers almost always prefer the 12 oz wine tumbler, because a stemless shape feels right for the drink and sits steady on a picnic blanket.
Whose hands will hold it?
For children, choose a kids tumbler rather than a small adult tumbler. Kids tumblers are lighter and sized for smaller hands. For older adults with arthritis or a weaker grip, a slimmer shape like the skinny tumbler is often easier to hold than a wide one; the wine tumbler is short and stable on a table.
How much do you want to print?
The more you want on the tumbler, the more surface you need. A grandma tumbler with eight grandchildren’s names, a family photo, or a long quote reads best on a 20 oz or 30 oz tumbler. A single name, a monogram or a date looks elegant on a 12 oz wine tumbler. On kids tumblers, one name plus a design is usually perfect; children recognise their own name faster when it is big and simple.
Choosing between two sizes
When you are torn between two sizes, these rules of thumb help:
- Between 20 oz and 30 oz: choose 20 oz if the tumbler will travel in a car or a bag, 30 oz if it will mostly sit on a desk or go to long outdoor days.
- Between 20 oz and 12 oz wine: think about the drink. Coffee and water point to the 20 oz; wine and evening drinks point to the 12 oz wine tumbler.
- Between 12 oz kids and a 20 oz for a teenager: most teenagers prefer an adult tumbler; most children under ten are happier with a kids tumbler.
- For a matching set: keep everyone in the same size so the set looks consistent in photos, unless the set mixes adults and children.
Ordering for a mixed group
Group gifts often mix ages and tastes: a family reunion with grandparents, parents and grandchildren, or a team gift for coaches and players. A simple way to keep the set looking like a set is to choose one design and one colour, then vary the size by person. For example, a reunion might use 20 oz skinny tumblers for the adults and 12 oz kids tumblers for the children, all in white with the same family name design and each person’s first name. A bridal party might use 12 oz wine tumblers for the bridesmaids and a 20 oz skinny tumbler for the bride’s getting-ready coffee. Add each tumbler to the cart separately with its own size and name, and the whole set ships together, free of charge.
Kids tumblers by stage
Children change quickly, so think about the next year rather than the last one. Toddlers and preschoolers need supervision with straws and do best with a design that is mostly colour and a big first name they are learning to recognise. School-age children like a design that reflects what they love right now, such as an animal, a sport or a favourite colour, and they appreciate their name spelled exactly the way they write it. Pre-teens often feel too old for a kids tumbler; many prefer a 20 oz skinny tumbler with a simple name design. Always check the product page for the recommended age and lid type.
Gifting when you do not know their preference
If you do not know whether someone drinks coffee or wine, or whether they have a small car, the 20 oz skinny tumbler is the safest choice: it is the most versatile shape and gives the most room for personalization. Keep the design to a name or monogram, and if you guessed wrong, the recipient can exchange it within 60 days of delivery.
Colours and how they print
Colour options depend on the product. The colours you may see include White, Black, Blush Pink, Navy, Mint and Lilac. Colour swatches on screen are a guide: every screen shows colour slightly differently, and printed designs can look a little different on a coloured tumbler than on a white one. Light tumblers make bright photo designs stand out; darker tumblers suit bold lettering in light colours. Where a product page shows how a design looks on each colour, use that as your reference.
| Colour | Suits |
|---|---|
| White | Photo designs, colourful family and pet artwork, the most true-to-preview colours |
| Black | Bold names and monograms, gifts for dads and grandpas |
| Blush Pink | Mother’s Day, bridal parties, birthday gifts |
| Navy | Classic, understated name and monogram designs |
| Mint | Teacher and nurse gifts, spring and summer designs |
| Lilac | Kids tumblers, besties, birth-month flower designs |
Lids and straws
Lid and straw types depend on the product and are described on each product page. Skinny tumblers usually come with a press-in lid and a reusable straw; wine tumblers with a lid suited to sipping; kids tumblers with a lid designed for children. Lids reduce spills but are not designed to be fully leak-proof when a tumbler is upside down in a bag. If a lid or straw arrives cracked or missing, tell us within 60 days of delivery and we will replace it free of charge.
Measuring a cup holder or bag pocket
If fit matters, measure before you order:
- Use a ruler or tape measure across the widest part of the opening of the cup holder or bag pocket.
- Measure the depth from the top edge to the bottom.
- Compare those numbers with the base diameter and height listed on the product page.
- Allow a little room: a tumbler that is exactly the width of the holder will be hard to take out.
Care that keeps the print looking new
- Hand-wash with warm soapy water and a soft sponge; avoid scourers.
- Do not put the printed tumbler in the dishwasher, microwave or freezer.
- Wash the lid and straw separately and let them dry fully.
- Avoid leaving the tumbler in a hot car for long periods.
If you choose the wrong size
It happens. Every tumbler can be exchanged within 60 days of delivery for a different size or colour with the same personalization, with free postage both ways. Change-of-mind exchanges need the tumbler to be unused, with its lid and straw. If you notice the wrong size within 24 hours of ordering, email us and we can change it before printing. Read our Returns & Exchanges Policy and Cancel or Change an Order for details.
